<li><strong>Line 11 is the airport line.</strong> It reaches western Shenzhen and Futian, but your hotel may still require a transfer.</li>
<li><strong>Hong Kong has several border stations.</strong> Luohu, Futian Checkpoint and Liantang Checkpoint are not interchangeable.</li>
<li><strong>Save the exit, not only the station.</strong> Futian, Huaqiangbei and large mall complexes can put you on the wrong side of a major road.</li>

Shenzhen’s network looks intimidating because it is wide, not because every visitor needs every line. Start with the district where you will sleep, mark the airport or Hong Kong border you must reach, and then keep only the two or three lines that connect those fixed points.

## Airport and Hong Kong border routes

Airport station and Airport North are different. Use **Airport** for the passenger terminal. Airport North connects the wider transport area and should not be chosen merely because it appears first in a route result.

For Hong Kong, plan the whole chain: metro exit, walk to the control point, immigration on both sides and the Hong Kong connection. A metro arrival time is not a border-crossing time.

## How to read a route without memorizing terminal names

1. Select the line in the browser above.
2. Find your current station and the next station in your direction.
3. At an interchange, match the new line number and the next station again.
4. Before leaving the paid area, open the destination pin and choose the exit number.

This “next station” method is safer than memorizing a distant terminal on a 30-station line. Station signs and announcements use Chinese and English, while exit numbers remain the most useful last-mile instruction.

The route map tells you which line and transfer you need. It does not decide how to pay, whether an international bank-card gate is marked, how Line 11 business class is validated, or what to do when the exit gate rejects a card.
